Business Focus

To achieve our corporate mission we focus on three core components of our clients’ business:

  • Strategy
  • People
  • Technology
STRATEGY

The Nigerian business environment is in a constant state of change. The challenges being faced in the market today is completely different from the ones predominant five years ago. Although every surviving organization contributes to the dynamic state of the business environment, the aggregate factors responsible for this dynamic state are not within the control of any individual organization. The organizations that will survive, achieve and sustain market leadership must therefore be sensitive and responsive to changes in the market forces in such a manner that the organization’s mission and corporate objectives are effectively achieved.

A strategy therefore is a statement of fundamental patterns of present and planned objectives, resources deployment, and interaction with market, competitors and other environmental factors that indicate that an organization intends to survive and prosper over time. Out of the several factors that constitute the organization’s external environment, two factors: Customers and Competitors are the unique factors that determine a company’s achievement and sustenance of market leadership. This is because the other factors such as legal political, economic, socio-cultural etc. impacts almost equally on all players within the same industry.

An organization that will attain and sustain market leadership needs to constantly look for creative possibilities of serving her customers, so that the extent of perceived differentiation (positioning) between her image, products and services and that of competitors in the same industry would reduce the scope of direct competition. Achieving the above will involve the constant monitoring of customers and competitors – Strategic Thinking.

In view of the vital role of strategy in organizational success, and key boundary roles played by marketing in management of customers and competitors we provide the following strategy related consulting services to our clients:

Corporate Planning and Strategy Development
Corporate Positioning or Re-positioning Strategy
Business Process Re-engineering
Strategic Marketing Audit (SMA)
Strategic Marketing Planning (SMP)
Change Management Strategy Development
Computer-Assisted Integrated Customer Management System

PEOPLE

Strategy in and of itself, even with the best of planning is not sufficient for a firm to meet its long-term objectives of profit, growth, and survival. The fact remains that people must implement strategies. The competence, commitment, and motivation of staff involved in strategy implementation along with the overall corporate environment will determine the success of an organization.

Achievement and sustenance of market leadership demands that a firm is able to prevent competitors from eroding its advantages acquired as result of insightful differentiation. This requires that the firm not only remain alert about changes

happening with respect to new technology, and new entrants as well as customer preferences, but also develop its advantages internally, through its ‘superior’ people and skills-based. The advantages that stem from such ‘invisible’ factors as people and skills are far more difficult to develop (it takes a long time) but are correspondingly the most difficult for competitors to replicate.

In view of the importance of people in the achievement and sustenance of market leadership we provide the following personnel related consulting services for our clients:

Staff Productivity Management Solution (SPMS)
Manpower Planning and Strategy Development
Computer-Assisted Staff Recruitment and Selection
Staff Performance Audit
Job Analysis, Description and Design
Development of Effective Staff Evaluation System
Development of Motivational Staff Compensation and Incentive Packages

Training Services

Research in Industrial and organizational psychology indicated that the job performance of staff within an organizational setting is a function of five basic factors: Aptitude, Skills level, Role perceptions, Motivation, as well as Organizational and Environmental variables. It was proved by further research that these factors combine synergistically to influence the overall performance of a given staff. The implication is that if a staff is deficient in any of these factors, the individual could be expected to perform poorly e.g. if the sales person has a native ability and the motivation to perform but lacked the understanding of how the job should be done. Similarly, if the salesperson had the ability and accurately perceived how the job should be performed but lacked motivation, he is likely to perform poorly.

Four of these factors (i.e. Aptitude, Skills level, Role conception and Motivation) can be significantly improved by the training and development programme that the staff is consistently exposed to over a long period of time.

In view of the above we provide the following staff improvement-training programme for our clients.

TECHNOLOGY

Information Technology (IT) is a major driving force in the world economy today. This is because IT products (Hardware, Software, Networking, etc.) provide more efficient and cost effective means of performing business operations.

However, there are peculiar problems with respect to technology adoption and deployment in the Nigerian business environment:

Low appreciation of business benefits offered by Information Technology tools

Many Nigerian companies depend heavily on the managers of their Computer Department to set a direction for the company with respect to Information Technology strategy and policy. This is because of the perceived complexities of the features and components of Information Technology solutions.

However, most IT managers even though possess enough knowledge to understand and appraise Information Technology solutions from the technical stand point, often have limited understanding of the overall corporate business strategies. This situation brings about limitation in the abilities of most of them to develop comprehensive and effective Information Technology strategies that will be consistent with overall corporate strategies as well proactively integrate functional strategies. Resulting from this situation is the fact that IT managers find it very difficult to economically justify huge financial investments often involved in the purchase and adoption of appropriate Information Technology solutions in their organization.

Since Information Technology is a major tool for competitive advantage in our economy today, any limitation to effective Information Technology appreciation, purchase, adoption, integration, strategic deployment and optimization will definitely impact on the organization’s ability for attainment and sustenance of market leadership.

Under-Optimization of Information Technology Investments

Research in Information Technology adoption has shown that most companies that have invested in business software solution utilize less than 20% percent of the full potential of the system. Two major reasons attributed to this is are:

  1. 85% of top decision makers and management staff involved in strategic business decisions have low awareness of the full business solution
  2. Potential of their business software. This means that their information demands and expectations from the software will be correspondingly low.
  3. Also, because many Information Technology managers may not have an overall understanding of the corporate and functional strategies of the company, it is unlikely that they can defaultly provide strategic information potentially available in existing business software.

The implication of this is that substantial amount of money invested in the purchase; implementation; training and maintenance contracts of business software solutions will not be economically optimized. This situation, apart from denying the company the competitive advantage derivable from such an investment is likely going to discourage further investments in that direction, which may have been economically beneficial for the organization.

To overcome the problems stated above and several other problems related to Information Technology purchase, adoption and optimization we provide the following consulting services to our clients:

  • Information Technology Strategy Evaluation and Development
  • Business Software Audit and Optimization
  • Business Software Requirements Evaluation, Criteria Development, and Product Selection
  • Business Software Project Monitoring, Control and Supervision
